Objective of the activity

The students will be able to demonstrate the ability to write correctly by applying an accurate sequence of ideas in a narrative paragraph. With this activity, the students will be able to encourage their own thinking.

You will be submitting a narrative paragraph (1 paragraph). As you have studied in the resources included in this module, the main purpose of a narrative paragraph is to describe events that happened in the past. These events may be happy, sad, frightening, etc. Remember that a story has a beginning, a middle and an end. Also, transitions are important to identify the sequence.

Instructions

You will write the paragraph on any event or experience that you have had. You could also write about an experience that changed your life. It needs to be in your own words.

Here are some tips that will help you compose your paragraph.

  • Do not include your comments or opinions about the paragraph. You should stick to the sequence of the events as they occurred.
  • This type of paragraph has the same structure as any other paragraph (topic sentence, supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence).
  • The topic sentence (which is the first sentence of the paragraph) is not the beginning of the story, it should introduce what you are going to be writing about.
  • The beginning of the story should start from the second sentence.
  • Use words that describe and paint real images, so the reader can almost feel that they are experiencing the event.
  • Use complete sentences and transitions. Don’t forget the rules about commas.
  • The brainstorming technique will help you come up with ideas, words or phrases related to the topic. With those ideas, it will be easier to compose sentences that will help you write your paragraph. It must be submitted as part of the assignment.
  • Make sure you are using your own words and you are including the requirements included in the rubric (study the rubric and work with it). The rubric is included for a reason; to make sure you can evaluate your work. Before submitting, please review your assignment with it. The rubric includes all the necessary components for you to comply with this assignment with success.
  • You will submit all assignments in Word without converting it in PDF/Word protected.

Basically, for the paragraph that you will be writing, you will be asking yourself these questions:

  • Did I narrate a story?
  • Does it have a topic sentence?
  • Are the steps in my paragraph in a logical order?
  • Does it have a concluding sentence?
  • Did I use commas according to the rules?
  • Did I use the correct transitions?
  • Did I capitalize correctly?

Deliverable

The assignment must be delivered on time, without spelling or grammar mistakes. The works will be submitted to the tool to detect the similarity of content (now Urkund). Submit the answers in a Word document, Times New Roman, size 12. You must include references in APA format, three years or less.
