Consider these qualities of Bauhaus from A Primer of Visual Literacy:
simplicity
symmetry
angularity
abstraction
consistency
unity
organization
economy
subtlety
continuity
regularity
sharpness
monochromatic
How exactly do you interpret each of these qualities? For example, what does it mean when a product is organized, subtle, or regular? First, define your own interpretations of these terms. Then, make a list of some products you can think of that meet at least a few of these criteria. Do you think these products you listed benefited or suffered from their similarity to Bauhaus? How do you define whether a product suffers or succeeds in the consumers’ eyes?
Arrange your products into a composition with three or four images of the products you consider representative of Bauhaus work. Include a brief description—taking the prompts above into account—of each with your composition.
Be prepared to answer questions about your logic and how you defined the terms above.
