In this assignment, you will integrate the concepts of conflict resolution, group influence, and attribution to develop a program of conflict resolution to a current conflict situation.
Identify a conflict between two groups, and obtain approval from your instructor.
Write a 900-word paper in which you create a program to improve the relationship between two groups. Topic: Between police and a community. (Be specific in identifying what community, company, or organization you are writing about.)
Nature of the Conflict
o Describe the context of the conflict. What kind of community or organization is this? Who are the stakeholders in the outcome of the conflict?
o Identify the overt and covert issues presenting both sides.
o Describe the effect the conflict has on the organization within which it exists and, if applicable, the surrounding community.
o Identify attribution errors and how they will be addressed in the program.
o Analyze the dynamics within each group and between groups. Who are the leaders? Does anyone stall or undermine the group? Is there a relationship between two subgroups?
Program Design
o Apply the elements of conflict resolution.
o Describe the central strategy you will use to resolve or diminish the conflict.
o Provide at least one reference supporting the use of such a strategy.
o Include a program component that employs social media.
o Explain how you will address attribution errors between the groups.
o Identify the elements of persuasion you will use in your program.
Additional Help: Outline a conflict between two groups and how you propose to resolve that conflict. You are to apply the course concepts, such as attribution theory (what types of attributions the groups typically make about each other) and outline a specific conflict resolution method (such as mediation, arbitration, etc.) for resolving the conflict. In discussing the method you select, you should explain the details of the program that you design. For example, if you selected conflict between the police and the community, you would outline the nature of the conflict and apply attribution theory to the conflict. You might select exposure and mediation as a way to resolve the conflict and design community service events where the police and members of the community work together to help a population in need, like the homeless, for example. You should also outline the elements of persuasion that you will use to help the groups resolve their conflicts.
