Homelessness is a growing problem in the US. Homelessness arises when people or households
are unable to acquire or maintain housing they can afford. In 2018 the statistics of the US
Department of Housing and Urban Development indicate that of every 100,000 people in the US,
approximately 17 people experienced homelessness in a given single night. This study uses the
2017 state-level data to explain the two groups of factors that contribute to homelessness.
