The researchers were testing the hypothesis that the more constraints there are on the executive, the less political imprisonment (jailing of political opponents). The Chi-Square is 19.083, and the p-value or probability value or Pr. is .001. The unit of analysis is a country. The independent variable is the amount of constraints on the executive in that country. The dependent variable is the amount of political prisoners per 100,000 people in that country.
