In The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, you encountered the dictator, Leonidas Trujillo, who was not an example of a good leader. For your final paper, you will research a topic concerning certain types of leadership (good or bad); however, you will be able to choose the specific subject. For example, you could choose to write about a civil rights leader, such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., or Cesar Chavez. You could write about a past president of your choice (e.g., Barack Obama, John Fitzgerald Kennedy). You could focus on a movement, such as the Black Panthers and their platform, the Black Lives Matter movement, or “Occupy Wall Street” movements.
You may also write about Gay/LGBTQ rights, racial profiling in America, religious extremism, cults, or a specific cult leader. The choice is up to you. Essay Guidelines: 1. Essays must be at least four (four) pages typed, double-spaced, and with 1-inch margins. Your Works Cited page does not count towards the length requirement. 2. Use proper MLA formatting. 3. Do not use 1st or 2nd person pronouns. If you do, I will deduct 10 points for each use. Only use 1st person pronouns for personal examples used as evidence, not for argument. 4. You must quote your sources in your essay to provide evidence.
This means you must include in-text citations and a works cited page entry for every source cited in the text. 5. If you do not use proper MLA citation format and proper MLA paper format, you will receive credit for turning in the assignment, but no points. 6. Carefully proofread, edit, and spellcheck your work.
