Review at least 1 other student’s Key Assignment Outline and provide meaningful feedback. Refrain from general feedback, such as simply stating “good job.” Your feedback to other students is most helpful if you not only point out weak areas but also offer suggestions for improvement. The best feedback takes a three-stage approach to identify what was done well, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.

Student paper down below:

I. Introduction

A. How did I choose the topic(s) that I wanted to discuss in terms of importance to the social community

1. looking at current problems in our country and how to help or prevent those problems

2. looking at how keeping those that protect us as safe as we can

When looking at the issues that are plaguing our country, it is no question that mass shootings are a very real problem and something needs to be done. We can start doing that by starting to be proactive in our community by making sure the police officers who protect us are being protected the best way that they can, with body cameras. By wearing the cameras, they can have proof of an incident that happens at any given time.

B. How does the media play a role in both active shooters and mass casualties and body worn cameras

The media can be one of the biggest factors in either one of these issues. Sometimes it is good for the media to take action on these issues and other times it could cause disaster. The people of the community have a right to know what is going on and it will be the media that will give them that information.

II. Issues, problems, or Policies

A. Topics that are important to the social community

1. Active shooters and mass casualties

2. Body Worn Cameras

The topic of an active shooter and mass casualties is one of the main issues in America today. It is a sad fact that we have had more shootings this year than we have had days in the year. This has to stop and is the main reason why this topic is so important to the social community.

The topic of body worn cameras is important to the social community because it can help keep the police and civilians alike safe. The body worn camera can be a combination of both an issue as well as a policy depending on how a certain department will write the policy. The camera doesn’t lie and will prevent criminals and police officers from getting away with crimes that they could easily commit if they were not being filmed. The issue would be the privacy and rights being violated in some circumstances.

III. Changes to the important issues/policies

A. Changes that will help with the issue of active shooters and mass casualties

Unfortunately there is no simple fix when it comes to dealing with active shooters and mass casualties, but the more we can learn about these individuals the better off we can try to predict when tragedy will strike next. This will not always guarantee that it will fix this problem but it would be a good start. Schools have already started this process to try to fix the problem with their no bullying program. Most shooters that we have known throughout history have been troubled by other kids sometime at school and just couldn’t take it any more.

B. Changes that will help better body worn cameras

Body worn cameras are newer technology that has not been around for all that long. Saying this, we have to ensure that any officer that operates a body camera knows how to properly activate the camera, where and when they can record, and how to upload the data that they have recorded. We will need to have at least an annual refresher course that all officers regardless of time in rank or service will have to attend. All new officers will go through a thorough training class to use the body worn cameras.

IV. Projected outcome of these changes

A. Projected outcome of the changes for active shooters and mass casualties

We are hoping that by trying to learn as much as we can about the history of active shooters and everything they have in common with one another will eventually lead us to project when these attacks may take place. By schools taking a stand on no bullying, they are helping to make sure these kids do not grow up being bullied and then take their pain and rage out on innocent people. By looking for signs that may point to an incident like this happening, can also help prevent this from happening in the future.

B. Projected outcome of changes to body worn cameras

It is no secret that while police now have body worn cameras, they can still get away with being a corrupt officer. This means that they may turn off their camera when they know they are about to do something wrong. By having them be accountable for all footage the entire time that they are wearing the camera, may cut down on this corruption of the officer or even the criminal. The annual and new officer training will ensure that everyone that operates a body worn camera will understand the ins and outs of how to operate it. They will not have any excuse if something goes wrong. The cameras will also be kept in a secure location when they are not in use so we can assure that they are not tampered with.
