Comparison/Contrast Assignment Overview
In your comparison/contrast essay, you will focus on showing the reader the differences between your two topics. Choose one of the sets of topics below and develop what makes those two topics different from one another. Your introduction should discuss the similarities between the two topics, define any terms, and provide any necessary context for your reader. Your body paragraphs will discuss the differences between the two topics, using either the point by point method or the block method.

The comparison/contrast essay is meant to challenge and hone your organizational skills. Choose the same supporting details to analyze your two topics and show the differences in how they interact with these details. You will need to explain your ideas, much like in the illustration/example essay by showing rather than telling the reader what you?re recognizing as differences between your two topics. Please note that, if you choose a topic that includes movies, books, or songs, you should not summarize information from the movies, books, or songs, but instead, assume that your reader has seen, read, or heard them. Only focus on the most relevant information to your analysis.
