There are six main qualitative research designs, which all serve specific research purposes. The six qualitative research designs include 1) case study, 2) ethnography, 3) phenomenological study 4) grounded theory study, 5) narrative inquiry, and 6) content analysis. For this discussion, you will find similarities and differences among the six designs, as well as determine which design approach may be suitable for your selected topic. As you learn about the six qualitative research designs, think about how you could potentially use one or more of these designs to conduct your own study based on your selected topic from Week 1.

Prior to beginning work on this discussion,

Read Chapter 8 of the textbook.
Choose three of these six qualitative research designs you are most interested in exploring regarding your topic.

In your initial discussion forum post,

List the three qualitative research designs you chose.
Discuss two similarities that these three designs have in common.
Discuss two or three ways that these three designs differ from one another.
Explain, briefly, how one of these qualitative research designs could be used to design a study related to your selected topic.

or this second assignment, construct a 7-9 page paper that:

a) illustrates an accurate descriiption of content analysis as it applies to qualitative methods supported by classroom concepts;

b) provides a detailed content analysis (with matrix) of a particular form of popular media (via either 30-plus minutes of content, 20-25 images, or some other parameter (instructor permission for which must have been obtained prior to the submission of this assignment); and

c) identifies extant gaps in the literature and recommends further research in the content analysis area based upon the findings of your analysis.

Make sure that you clearly indicate if your approach is relational or conceptual. Regardless of the type of content method you choose, make sure that you mention possible patterns or themes in your essay. Last, content analysis is often triangulated with other methods. When you address extant gaps in the literature and recommendations for future research, you should posit a complimentary method of inferential testing for content analysis and your media selection.

Your paper should utilize sound critical thought, refer to course materials, and be written in APA format as per the 7th Ed. (to include a title page, abstract, appropriate in-text citations and a reference page).

Conversion Disorder
Factitious Disorder (aka Munchausen Syndrome)
There are so many Somatic Symptom Disorders! How can you tell the difference between them? One similarity that is shared between them is the difficulty that psychologists have in offering patients their diagnosis.

For this discussion board:

Explain the major differences in each of these disorders.
If you were a psychologist, how would be the best way to offer any of these diagnoses without putting the sufferer on the defensive, but also trying to break through the denial?

We have to learn all three theories of learning, Classical Conditioning, Operant Condition, and Observational Learning soon you will find out that many of our behaviors have been conditioned to make us who we are according to behaviorism.

Ready? lets make it fun and informative:

For each of the three behaviors below, please apply the type of learning that underlies the learned behavior.

Classical conditioning:

Food Aversion:

1. Describe a learned food aversion that you experienced. If you haven’t experienced a food aversion, ask a friend or family member to share one with you.

2. Show how the principles of classical conditioning (unconditioned stimulus (UCS), unconditioned response(UCR, conditioned stimulus (CS), and conditioned response(CR) applied to your food aversion experience.

Operant conditioning:

Pet behavior:

1. Describe a time when you trained (or observed pets) learn some amazing tricks. I taught my dog to shake hands with all the visitors instead of jumping at them using operant condition.

2. identify the type of reinforcement you used in this training according to the principles of operant conditioning.

Observational learning:

Monkey see, monkey do:

1. Describe a time when someone told you (or you told someone) “do what i say, not what i do” and how effective it was.

2. Show how the principles of observational learning do not agree with this saying. what are the main factors that are needed for observational learning to occur.

Please respond with at least 100 words for each learning theory.

For your Final Project in this class, you will be picking a fictional character from T.V. or the movies

For your Final Project in this class, you will be picking a fictional character from T.V. or the movies and try to best apply what was learned in class by diagnosing them. The main purpose will be to make a case for the diagnosis you choose. You will be handing in a presentation (PowerPoint/Google Slides) with links to YouTube to back up your proposed diagnosis along with a written paper.

For this assignment, you will be doing the groundwork that will allow you to later write your paper and create your presentation You should choose your character and then do a YouTube search to ensure you will be able to back up your diagnosis with video clips. You do not need to have an actual diagnosis at this time, but you should at least have something in mind. As you go through our class, you might change your mind about the diagnosis and you can include this in your paper.

Submission Guidelines
Please submit this assignment with the following questions answered:

What is the name of your character and in what movie/show where they were featured?
What do you think the diagnosis will be? Why?
Is there anything you think might come into play in this character’s diagnosis, such as cultural background or setting?
Did you find enough clips on YouTube to make the case for your character?
This submission should be at least 150 words and citations are not necessary unless you are drawing information from outside of our class or you are directly quoting. It is important that you do not select a character who is already diagnosed on the show unless you are planning to present a different diagnosis than what is already known.

Summary
Value: 15% of the final grade.

Learning Objectives
Critically evaluate through a biological lens a chosen issue from your own life, or made up, presented in a therapy session.
Describe how the counsellor developed aspects of the primary focus of factors both biologically and psychologically.
Discuss how the counsellor developed the therapeutic relationship.
Synthesize your understanding of the biological and psychological lens: What facilitated, what contributed, and what maintained the issue being presented.
Demonstrate a clear and effective understanding by communicating through a narrative format using APA 7th ed style.
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to assist students to comprehend the BioPsycho lens within the therapeutic process. It is important for counsellors to understand the aspects of biology and psychology in the therapy session with a client.

Instructions
This assignment is structured to allow the student to be the client. As the student is the client, write from a client’s perspective, using first person pronoun where applicable, throughout the whole paper, the expectation is for the student to recognize what the experience is like and the value of what a trained counsellor brings to the experience: understanding the professional counsellor in this assignment will be your reading materials as they inform you of your topic and therapeutic relationship. The assignment is to promote the student’s understanding of biological and psychological aspects and their impact on understanding human thinking and behaviour.

Structure
Required components: The assignment is to be a five-page paper consisting of a title page, brief introduction, page three is one page dedicated to writing the biological factors presented and the counsellor’s building of the therapeutic relationship, the fourth page is one page dedicated to the writing of the psychological factors presented and the counsellor’s building of the therapeutic relationship. One page, or more, of references with a minimum of six references within the past seven years.
Length of Assignment: The text body of paper (i.e., not including references, title page,) should be three double-spaced typed pages, Times New Roman font size: 12 or APA 7th ed).
Format: Please, format your assignment in Word Doc (files with extension .doc or .docx), or Rich Text Format (files with extension .rtf). No PDF’s.
References: six minimum within the last seven years.
Imagine that you are the client and will bring forth a topic to apply the weekly readings. The list below may be used to help you select a primary focus. Examples that can be used for this self-analysis project:

Communication
Stress management
Procrastination
Organizational skills
Sleep issue
Work-Life Balance
Self-esteem
Family dynamics in the relationship
Anxiety
If you have a topic that is not on this list, then please reach out to your primary instructor for approval.

** Please be mindful not to over-disclose. Do not select anything that personally elicits strong emotional responsiveness, such as addiction, substance abuse, significant grief/loss, trauma (i.e., violent incidents, abuse, sexual assault, etc). **

See the diagram to explain what is meant by factors!

What did the counsellor identify as biological aspects of the primary focus selected above to you?
How did the counsellor build the therapeutic session for you to disclose and be respected?
Identify at least 3 biological factors.
What did the counsellor identify as psychological aspects of the primary focus selected above to you?
How did the counsellor build the therapeutic session for you to disclose and be respected?
Identify at least 3 psychological factors.
Support your assessment with literature from your readings.
What do we mean by Biological and Psychological Factors:

Biological — Genetic, hormonal, glands, diet, exercise, developmental factors (neurotransmitters), pregnancy, medication, toxins, physical environmental factors in nature.

Psychological — Cognitive, thinking, perception, self-talk, emotion/mood/feelings, behavioural, self-regulation, personality style. developmental internal constructs from experiences in life (development of beliefs about self and self-talk).

Write a maximum of five pages (you may have six pages if your reference list is longer), no further pages will be read by the instructor. This paper must include a title page, brief introduction, two pages making up the biological factors and psychological factors, and reference page(s) included in a total of five – six pages, no more than three pages of text. Introduce the primary focus in a concise presentation (your story as the client), one page, in which you will apply the framework. There should be one page of APA style (i.e., double spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt font or your choice of APA style 7th ed., in a Word doc) dedicated to the biological discussion and 1 page dedicated to the psychological discussion. Please be sure to write a full page for each topic by fully exploring the factors and aspects. The fifth page is your reference page and should not be more than one page to adequately cover the discussions, however, you may have more than one page of references if you choose. A conclusion is not required for this assignment.
Therefore you need:

1 – title page (one page)

2- introduction (second page)

3 – discussion of biological factors, through the biological framework, and how the therapist built the session for you (third page)

4 – discussion of psychological factors, through the psychological lens, and how the therapist built the session for you (fourth page)

5. reference page(s). You may have more than one page of references (fifth, and sixth page)

We expect a minimum of 6 references and a maximum of 12 references. Be sure the references are within the last seven years.

Task: This paper is to apply the two approaches examined so far in this course (biological and psychological) to you personally and your personal life.

Purpose: As a student we want you to gain self-awareness and to reflect in an elaborative manner – and more deeply – about how life domains are influenced by biological and psychological factors.

Objective: This assignment, consistent with Course Outcomes is to offer students the opportunity to think and conceptualize about life experiences multi-theoretically, from a biopsychological framework. To also reflect on what a client (you) would experience in the counselling session.

Factors Explained: What factors facilitate, what factors contribute, what factors maintain, the primary focus or issue.

How to examine each BPS/CRSJ Factor:

The goal is to examine each lens and how these factors produce or maintain the presenting problem in the client’s situation. For example, take the biological perspective, what has biologically facilitated the existence of the presenting problem?

See the visual below of what to avoid (i.e., symptoms have been created as a result of its presence).

What to avoid for Assignments:

Exploring symptoms or consequences that are a result of the presenting problem is more in line with diagnostic assessments. It does not help the counsellor explore BPS/CRJS understanding. Please avoid this thinking or discussion in your assignments.

Use course readings and a minimum of two additional sources outside of the course room dated within the last seven years. Use the course reading and one outside source for Biological discussion, and the course reading and one outside source for the Psychological discussion.

Considerations
Please access the course room materials to support assignment development.

Resources
Any sources used to support your written narrative should be cited using correct APA format. Although Wikipedia can be a useful starting place to gather very general information no Wikipedia references will be accepted as scholarly citations.

Use the Yorkville University Library and the EBSCO tool for academic search. It is important to select credible sources for assignments. This resource will assist students in determining which sources are credible: https://my.yorkvilleu.ca/ask/credible-source-guide/

Submission Notes
Please do not email your submissions to your professor, either before or after the due date; all coursework should be submitted through the online course (Moodle).

The system will not allow you to resubmit after the due date. In the event of an emergency situation preventing, you from submitting within this time frame, special permission must be obtained from your professor prior to the deadline. Documentation substantiating emergency is required. In such a circumstance, if the extension is granted, the professor will reopen the submission function for you on an individual basis.

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond

Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated.
Prior to beginning work on this discussion, be sure to view the Help! Need Article interactive. Review the Graduate Research Guide for Psychology, Psychology Subject Guide, Academic Voice for Graduate Writing, and Professional Voice and Writing resources provided by the University of Arizona Global Campus Library and the Writing Center. You will be referencing these resources as you complete this assignment.

Psychology professionals (i.e. professors and researchers) require research and writing skills for their day-to-day work. It is important for those working in psychology to use both academic and professional writing within the appropriate settings since they differ according to the types of items created. It is also of primary importance that all claims be supported with appropriate research within the discipline. This discussion has two components:

Part 1: Visit the University of Arizona Global Campus Library and find three articles of interest to you from a general area in psychology (Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, etc). Develop an annotated bibliography using the UAGC Writing Center’s template putting all citations/sources in APA 7th ed. format, and conclude with a summation of the topic overall based on the information from all three articles. Save this as a word document.

Part 2: In your initial post, reflect on the process of finding the articles:

What specific issues did you encounter?
What were the challenges in both the research and writing processes?
How did you work to overcome the challenges in this assignment, and how might you use this experience to inform future research and writing practices?
How were the resources in the University of Arizona Global Campus Library and the Writing Center useful to you during the process?
Are there specific additional resources you would like to have for future assignments?
Attach the annotate bibliography and summation.
Guided Response: After completing the two parts of the initial post (see the instructions), review several of your colleague’s posts and respond to at least two of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion.

Did your colleague indicate the same or similar issues and challenges you did?
What did you do to alleviate problems and overcome challenges during the creation of your Professional Research Summary, which might be of use to your colleague?
What suggestions might you make to your colleague that could assist him or her in the future?
Peer responses should be a minimum of 200 words each. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m. MST on Day 7 of the week and respond to anyone who replies to your initial post.

to think about your personal history and identify cultural factors, formative events, key
relationships and/or significant periods in your life that have influenced your development and
shape the way you view the world. This could include your personal philosophy about human
nature and how it may or may not change. You may also reflect on your feelings about mental
health and pathology. You may incorporate results of the Theory Sorter, which you will take
during the first or second class. It will be interesting to see how your perceptions change at the
end of the semester when you write your theoretical orientation paper. This should be in APA
