Topic – The evolution of ransomware in the cybersecurity space.
Write an individual paper (6-8 pages, single spaced, 11 point font, normal margins) on a particular topic. Graphics (optional) make the paper more readable and count towards the page count. Evidence of both research and personal insights on the topic are important. You are free to undertake an in-depth investigation of any topic that relates to information security or forensics. A list of potential (but not exhaustive) areas is below; if you need additional assistance in selecting or refining a topic area, please discuss with the instructor. Multiple students can choose the same topic but must work independently.
You are encouraged to use all available resources (e.g. academic journals, white papers, practitioner journals, newspaper reports, websites, textbooks, etc.). Where references to external sources are used, please cite at the end of your report, using whatever format you prefer. The list of references does not count against the 8 page maximum, but all other exhibits, illustrations, and appendices do count against the maximum. I recommend embedding any graphics within the body of the report (not at the end).
The structure of your report is up to you and should be adjusted depending on the nature of your topic. However, the following areas should be addressed (these can be the sections):
◦ What is the topic (general descriiption, definitions, brief history, importance)?
◦ What are the important cyber security and/or forensic issues (threats, actors, politics, etc)? Please discuss them.
◦ What are the best ways to protect your assets?
