The topic of the individual vs. society has been something we have discussed all semester. We are taught how society works from a very early age and its rules affect our lives on a daily basis. But what happens when an individual is at odds with his or her society? For the research essay for this class, discuss how an author, poet, or playwright uses the theme of the individual vs. society in their work. Write a 5-7 page essay (minimum 1500 words) discussing how the individual vs. society works in the piece of literature of your choice (must be a work we have read this semester). You will want to consider several literary elements of the pieces such as imagery, character, tone, plot, metaphor or simile in your discussion.
